Last night I was surprised to see the restaurant menu have a new arrival of Founders Kentucky Breakfast Stout. When this beer appeared recently in NC it was snatched up before I could get to a bottle shop so I figured eventually I would run into some, but certainly not at an off the beaten path restaurant. It was only fitting since this was the first time I had been to that particular location, but the clientele was more family oriented than other locations in the chain. It still had the same menu and a familiar layout, but kids and families was the order of the day. Back to the beer, the 11.2% ABV was daunting, but never hot nor solvent and perfectly balanced with malt. The Bourbon wasn’t boozy, it added depth with an oaky presence which needs to be experienced to be understood. The beer was chocolate and roast espresso in a tightly bound package which if you have a chance to snag a bottle, do so, in fact snag two. This was a truly outstanding beer!
